Prevention

Fire Prevention is a crucial function of the Santa Paula Fire Department. Prevention activities occur both at the engine-company level, as well as through our Code Enforcement and Inspection Services departments. Through active fire prevention and education activities, our goal is to prevent fire incidents before they occur.

At the engine company level, our firefighters are involved in a number of activities including:

  • Annual Business Inspections
  • Hazard Materials surveys and inspections
  • Fire Extinguisher training
  • Elementary Education Programs

Fire Inspections

All businesses in the City of Santa Paula undergo annual Fire Inspections by our engine companies. These inspections allow us to identify potential fire hazards, educate our business owners about preventing fires, and familarize our firefighters with area buildings and businesses. To schedule a fire inspection, please call 805-933-4225 or email Assistant Chief Kevin Fildes at kfildes@ci.santa-paula.ca.us.

Hazard Materials surveys and inspections

A number of businesses in Santa Paula are required to file annual Hazardous Materials Business Plans based on the number and types of materials that they store or utilize. Our department conducts regular inspections of these facilities to ensure compliance with the fire code, and to prepare to respond to any Hazardous Materials incident.

Fire Extinguisher Training

Santa Paula Fire Department provides Fire Extinguisher training to area businesses on an as needed basis. Through the use of a fire extinguisher prop, attendees have the opportunity to extinguish live fire in a controlled environment and practice using a fire extinguisher.

Elementary Education Programs

An important part of our Prevention program is educating school groups about about ways they can prevent fires. Our firefighters conduct station tours with elementary-age students to teach them important fire safety information, such as not to playing with matches, how to call 911, stop, drop and roll, etc. We also teach them about our jobs, our equipment and what to do in case of a fire.. If you are interested in scheduling a Fire Station visit for your classroom, please contact us.
